Summary of songs that appeared in annual list of binaca geetmala 1971
A total of 32 songs appeared in annual list for the year 1971. The music for these thirty two songs was composed by seven different music directors (last year also the same number of music directors made it to the annual list). This year Kalyanji Anandji was on the top and composed the music for 9 songs, followed closely by Laxmikant Pyarelal with 7 songs (in 1970, Laxmikant Pyarelal was on top). R D Burman with 5 songs, S D Burman and Shankar Jaikishan with 4 songs each followed. Salil Chowdhury composed the music for 2 songs while Sapan Jagmohan composed the music of one song.

Amongst singers, it was the year of Kishore Kumar who was on top with a total of 20 songs (9 solo and 11 duets). Lata Mangeshkar sung a total of 10 songs, out of which 4 were solo and 6 duet songs. Asha Bhosle sung a total of 7 songs all duets. Mukesh with 3 songs (all solo), and Mahendra Kapoor with 2 songs (1 solo, 1 duets) followed. There were six other singer who have sung one song each. These were Mohammed Rafi, Manna Dey, Pratibha, R D Burman, Suman Kalyanpur and Sushma.
Further, "Purab Aur Paschhim" was the only film to have 3 songs in annual list. Then, there were a total eight films, which had two songs each in the annual list. These films were "Aan Milo Sajna", "Andaz", "Anand", "Jal Bin Machhli Nritya Bin Bijli", "Kati Patang", "Johny Mera Naam", "Main Sunder Hoon", and "Sharmeelee".
