SHE DANCES BEAUTIFULLY!!!!!

adi09215 on Tuesday, July 21, 2009
Its a potrait of old indian Culture which was a mixture of Good and BAD in which Pros were respected but girls were also abducted to force them into this profession, a pain staking work by director to portray pain

Ichisokeno on Monday, January 09, 2012
Could someone explain the meaning of this song to me? Its divine :) Keep
listening to it.

L. C. on Monday, February 06, 2012
I have seen many classical dancing, but Meena Kumari masters it to
perfection by her beauty, talent and body language. She is an immortalized
beauty: None can match her even at this modern era. JUST enjoy the song and
dance, thnx. No need to give negative remarks and draw religion into every
matter.

sadia naseem on Tuesday, March 06, 2012
lata ki patli awaz not suitable for this classical number, sorry

Jayzee B on Thursday, March 08, 2012
@shayan346 I appreciate your sentiments and I am in the same boat but you
really serious about anyone, and i mean anyone even coming close to either
Meena Kumari or Madhubala as Anarkali. I like Sushmita Sen more than Ash
but even she won't be able to do justice.

JoJo hill on Wednesday, March 21, 2012
@shayan346 I like Sushmita Sen but I have to disagree that she could do
this, I don't think she can do Kathak like this. The only name that comes to
mind is Madhuri that can dance anything like this, but in my opinion why
remake something so divine. I like it the way it is. I think when they
remade Umrao Jaan it was huge mistake and this would be another, as would
be remaking Mughal E Azam(these ladies Madhubala, Meena Kumari, and Rekha
put their souls into these movies and that can't be redone).

Hafizhaseebify on Tuesday, April 03, 2012
Can anyone please tell me that what was happened in the movie after this
song? One guy toook out the gun but who did he shot to and why?

momykhan5 on Friday, April 13, 2012
The real pain looks invicible to the lady meena kumari (Shahab Begum). she
was'nt agree to do the left aside movie again as she was both mentaly and
physicaly shattered in the love of Kamal Amrohi. they both quarrelled
bitterly despite being loving each other terribly...the lady died six days
later the pakiza released..

ramprashad29 on Sunday, May 06, 2012
look at yourself in the mirror(@gemphu1234)..you never will know what
beauty is...you are the ugly duckling that remained ugly..meena kumari is
not only beautiful her beauty is stunning

ramprashad29 on Sunday, May 06, 2012
no one is forcing you to like her. you are entitled to your opinion but the
fact is most think she is beautiful...that's what matters. your opinion is
all that it is,& will never change the world.

some gents old balls...maybe that will bring happiness to your life..

JoJo hill on Wednesday, May 09, 2012
Thanks much appreciated,I will watch for the show :)

JoJo hill on Wednesday, May 09, 2012
Just wondering where this info is from cause I have read so many articles
that indicate otherwise. Many articles that praise her as a Kathak dancer
come from Kathak schools as well as a reference from Pandit Birju Maharaj
in the TOI about Meena Kumari and Waheeda Rehman? But yes I agree I like
Meena Kumari's version better because it's very graceful and is not coming
across as a dance but as a story she is telling (Katha) with perfect amount
of 'ada' thrown in.It's mesmerizing.

mihamaya23 on Friday, May 11, 2012
she is so beautiful.

Khurmiful on Saturday, June 02, 2012
Legendary Mujra, if there is a better one in it's graceful melody and sweet
dadra (6 beat), then let me know.

BTW, before Ash's fans start yelling at me, I am not saying she was
"vulgar" in Umrao Jaan:-) I am just saying what Saroj Khan said. Personally
I think Aishwarya looked ethereally beautiful and danced well too but she
is not Rekha or Meena Kumari when it comes to playing a role like this. She
has her own strengths.

ramprashad29 on Saturday, June 09, 2012
there will only be one meena kumari, one madhuballa, one sadnah, one
mumtaz, one rekah, one lata, one asha, one kishore and one
rafi..there will never be another.

Mohan Panicker on Tuesday, June 12, 2012
Agree with keener completely - Ash was beautiful, great facial expressions
but the movements were not as refined as Meena Kumari's or Madhubala or
Padmini, etc. Still she is stunning, too bad she does not have a stronger
classical background.

Hem Padia on Saturday, July 07, 2012
Tthe best thing about meena kumari is that she was such a natural actress.
She did not have to put too much effort to be noticed. Look closely at her
roles in films like Bahu begum and also saheb bibi gulam, she is always
herself yet potrays that character so well. I don't think that there was
any actress in her time that could compare with her.

JoJo hill on Thursday, July 19, 2012
Sorry just to inform u-Ash is trained in classical Indian
dance(BharataNatyam). However, these movies being discussed r about
Tawaif/Courtesan's (usually in the royal courts) n this was in the northern
region where Kathak was the learned classical Indian dance form. They r both
classical Indian dance forms just different so Ash portraying these roles
didn't really work-in my opinion.Madhuri Dixit is a learned Kathak
dancer,as is Deepika Podukone (which I have only heard not seen).

realityisme555 on Monday, July 30, 2012
ooh y such a beautiful cud nt enjoy matrimonial bliss?

Perisma Tarigan on Saturday, August 11, 2012
Diva Meena Kumari.

Rafeel Sherazi on Saturday, August 11, 2012
people i need ur help..i jus dun understand the plot of the video...why
everyone is disturbed in it...n even why he shoots that guy at the last...n
why one walks out in between the mujra...

ramprashad29 on Tuesday, August 14, 2012
she dances beautifully because she is the one and only meena kumari...

Ayeshaisz on Sunday, August 19, 2012
Wow this whole movie is so awesome. I saw this movie as i young teenager,
in London, Uk with my parents. And ever since have just loved all the
songs.with the great dances & yes the beautiful Indian clothes. The whole
world loves our Indian culture now. And they try to sing, dress & copy us.
What a rush for Us Indian people. Go India.

Rachna Rallapalli on Friday, September 07, 2012
Aishwarya's Kathak in Umrao Jaan was flawless.

Rachna Rallapalli on Friday, September 07, 2012
Aishwarya's Kathak in Umrao Jaan was flawless.

JoJo hill on Friday, September 07, 2012
Well, I guess I disagree with u. To be flawless in a classical dance form,
most would have to have years of experience with it.Just because u r
trained in one doesn't make u an expert in the other. If a ballerina came n
said well, I am a classically trained dancer so I can dance BharataNatyam
flawlessly, it wouldn't go over very well. So...I guess that's your opinion
n I spoke mine.

Rachna Rallapalli on Friday, September 07, 2012
Sorry, I don't know about experience. All I care is what I see on
celluloid. And as a big fan of classical dance, I thought she was perfect.
Expressions, movements, grace. She nailed it there. I guess her being
trained in Bharatnatyam came in handy.

JoJo hill on Monday, September 10, 2012
Yes, well I am also a big fan of classical dance.I agree being trained in
one form of classical dance does come in handy as most classically trained
dancers tend to pick up other forms faster than someone with no
experience. However,I still would never say it was flawless, there are too
many differences between Kathak and Bharatnatyam.IMO in Kathak the
movements are more restrained, not as brisk.I like both but the character of
the movie was a courtesan (Kathak) n at times it showed..my opinion.

11ling on Monday, October 01, 2012
Meena picked the costumes herself for this film.

Khurmiful on Saturday, October 13, 2012
One of lataji's most underrated gems. Every one seems to get carried away
with on screen stuff.

Autumn2487 on Wednesday, November 07, 2012
I can't agree with you more on this. And this film in particular personnifies refinement. A lot to learn from this apologetic, fragile nautch girl.

sgdebe on Tuesday, December 04, 2012
An all time classic heard in Trinidad.WI always played in my times.thank you lataji hearing still in Dec 2012 still strong ..

This Movie remind me my Grand father, he was a pricipal of school, some
what conservatives as per his time, very strict about culture but he booked
tickets for whole family (I believe 15 of us) with his limited income and
we watched this movie in old opera house theater. I was too young (6yr) to
understand but I used to sing this song atleast once in a day.

Sukriti Gupta on Saturday, February 23, 2013
No one mentions Meena Kumari's superb emoting!!! Even with her little
dancing skills ,she manages to convey all thru her eyes and body language!!
truly , a sign of great artist!!!

ndrshh on Wednesday, March 13, 2013
The eyes and the hint of a 'come hither' smile at 5:44 are two examples of
why Meena Kumari is a legend.

Sky High on Sunday, April 14, 2013
