siddhartha161 on Saturday, April 07, 2012 The song you are talking about is 'Bistirno Parore' in Assamese or 'Ganga' in Hindi. But that is Dr. Bhupen Hazarika's cover of Paul Robeson's 'Ol'man River' rather than a copy. Paul Robeson was his mentor at Columbia University in the US where Dr. Hazarika did his PhD. He has talked about this in several interviews, here is one of them :youtube(dot)com/watch?v=y-N9REhwVXI . Listen to the portion just after 5 minutes into that video.
EKLAVYA DIKSHIT on Sunday, May 20, 2012 brother..it is adapted from it..called "Bistrirno parore" in assamese nd
"Bistar hai apar" in hindi..he was inspired by pol robeson..nd evn worked
wit him..he himself never said dis 2 b his original..always adapted.

Rainbow HD on Sunday, November 04, 2012 You’re right that he was inspired by Paul Robeson. I think it is adapted
from “Megh Thom Thom Kore from” when Bhupenda was in Bangladesh for Alamgir
Kabir's film Simana Pariye [1977] (Beyond Borders). Bhupenda composed music
for the film during his stay in Bangladesh. Here is the link
