twinkle420eye on Saturday, January 24, 2009
whatever happened to the actresses who could carry & convey a song just SITTING on the floor...

now they're jumping all over the place...still you get not an iota expressed

Halimali on Saturday, January 24, 2009
right Twinkle, really miss those days. Previously audiences enjoyed
extremely when the camera focused on the face of Hema, Meeena Kumari or
Nutan, The shot used to be sooo beautiful and eye catching. Nowdays it is
disgusting big time

Abhijit Khare on Friday, March 13, 2009
wonderful song based on Raag. Bilaskhani Todi... which is tough to sing.
but Satyasheel Deshpande ans Asha Bhosle have sung it effortlessly.

Sunny Sharma on Wednesday, September 02, 2009

Who is the (male) singer of the opening peace? what raga/style etc is it? and most importantly is there a complete version of that raga/song? really love those first 10-15 seconds.

ravi seetharam on Tuesday, March 30, 2010
Is this Gurjari Thodi?

ravi seetharam on Tuesday, March 30, 2010
@abhikhare7 What is the difference b/n Gurjari Thodi and Bilaskhani Thodi?

Abhijit Khare on Tuesday, March 30, 2010
@ravindrabhatt - It is said that Tansens son Bilas Khan was grieving after
Tansens death and took Tansens Miyan ki Todi (very similar to Gujari with
the exception of Pa being absent in Gujari) and composed a new Raga mixing
Bhairavi and Todi to get Bilaskhani Todi. so Bilaskhani has components
of Bhairavi in it... Some people also see Asavari in it..

raqib56 on Thursday, April 22, 2010
@ravindrabhatt, No, this is Belaskhani todi in Bhainravi thaat, sung in
sampurna i.e. all seven surrs arohi and amrohi, ascending & descending.
Son of Mian Tansen Bilas Khan invented it.

Gujri Todi is derived from Todi thaat, in sadhava jati, i.e 6 surrs arohi amrohi
its a noon raag !

Aditya Ghosh on Friday, April 23, 2010
thnx a ton halimali, I had the good fortune of hearing this after such a
long time. The Bilaskhani Todi alaap is derived from DV Paluskar no doubt
but the entire composition has the beauty and melody that none of the
current songs could ever imagine to reach... thanks again

@seemam9 :do not leave Gulzar.
:D

Hema Malini is very beautiful but I do not find anybody as gorgeous as
Dimple Kapadia.

apurvanow on Tuesday, July 13, 2010
I watched this movie when it came out, but last week suddenly I watched it for the second time. Initially I wondered why Hema in this film, especially when she is shown as a younger girl in parts of the film. All those questions were answered when this song came-up. Name one who could dance like she can in long screen shorts. Most actress of the time this movie came out were only capable of dancing on the street (Bollywood style) with a screen shot no longer than a couple of seconds.

rahim8957 on Sunday, September 05, 2010
As all her videos, Hema Malini is very nice and beautiful actress, but in this video we can see how many Hema its an true artist in the dance. Thank you!!!

THANX 4 D POST. ITS A GR8 COLLECTION!

prabhasm on Friday, July 15, 2011
Ashaji sang this live in Washington DC in 2010, just on chords and without
any music, and with a brief recount of the history of Bilaskhani Todi,
presented several variations of the aalaap -- Pt. Jasraj was in the
audience! -- it sounded so good -- i keep thinking the original recording,
great though it was, was always a bit muffled and gave her limited room for
improvisation!

Ajay Tayade on Monday, August 22, 2011
Gulzarsaab!

Khursheed Omer on Friday, September 16, 2011
@halimali You are absolutely right! I do not watch modern day movies
because they are so disgusting.

snehalatha on Tuesday, December 27, 2011
@TheDimasisk We are moving from the era of Dhvani (suggestive portrayal)
into the arena of the explicit. Vulgarity will rule more and more as the
king in movies and we will have to stop going to the movies and enjoy media
such as Kathak and BharataNatyam and Odisi to see cultured and restrained
and Dhvanipradhaan entertainment.

Laboni Chaudhuri on Saturday, January 07, 2012
Amazing.m spell bound...the beauty of Raga

Lakin

Gulzar has this amazing ability to lend dignity to even the most abstract of subjects. As abstract as reincarnations and wandering spirits...

rshcam on Thursday, August 30, 2012
Asha Bhosle at the age of 78 sang this song in Indian Idol episode dated
Aug 24th, 2012. Lekin album was made in 1990. So even after 22 years, Asha
Bhosle could sing the song perfectly like the original one. That is the
mark of a true singer.

shahzadcool1 on Friday, August 31, 2012
