ytub7 on Sunday, April 26, 2009 People often wrongly compare the same song sung by Rafi and Lata like this one, or Ahsaan tera...What we need to understand is that these songs were originally made for the MALE actor in the movie and hence the female is asked to sing it very plainly because she is just repeating it...So if Lata copy's Rafi's style that will sound ridiculous like a female singing in male style. Similarly Rafi cannot sing Rasik Balma or Sharma aati hai magar made for Lata and copy her style.

Male singing has slight machoism (Rafi's style of singing) whereas Lata's has a female's delicacy, shyness etc, which is required for a female.

that for whatever reason, I like Rafi's version better. How that statement
translates to "Rafi was better than Lata" or that I am a male chauvinist, I
do no know. I never compared them both...all I said was that I, for my
listening, prefer Rafi's version of this song. Sigh...talk about being
tolerant and letting people have opinions.

when great poets were just beginning to use the words "Meri Mehboob", or
"Meray Mehboob". Examples : Faiz Ahmed Faiz wrote :"Mujh sey pehli si
mohabbat, MERI MEHBOOB naN maaNg". Sahir Ludhianvi said " MERI MEHBOOB
kaheeN aur Mila Kar Mujh Sey" i.e. not at Taj Mahal. Shakil Badayuni

had given its verdit ! The Rafi version, to begin with, is the original
expression of passionate love by a male person.

emotional stories related to these songs. I love old hindi songs, and
though that makes me a "boring" fellow among my friends, who cares. My
point was, I made no comparison between Lata and Rafi. Two different
singers each with their own skills. All I said was, I prefer the male
version of this song...as it expresses my feelings better for me.

and Lata sing the same song - Aji Rooth Kar Ab Kahan - Lata's was far
better. In terms of longevity, Lata outlasted Rafi. Lata is the better
singer because she had more range - Rafi's voice doesn't go up very high.
But I agree that both are great, and we can be fans of both singers
vlohani on Monday, December 07, 2009 You ought to be kidding sir, if Rafi's voice can't go very high then all the other singers including Lata shall be doomed to be considered inarticulate.The fact that Rafi version in Arzoo was small doesn't mean that he rendered it inferior to Lata- in fact each and every moment when Rafi sings the song, his command is so much supreme that one can't help marvel at the ease with which he delivers the song.
As for range, it is well known Rafi outstrips anyone by miles

perspective. lata is a great singer but just does not match the version by
rafi. anyways the version sung by rafi is the one which gained acclaim and
