This is raag Kidara. Nayyara Noor is superb but there is no comparison with
Surdas Khurshid. Both are a treasure for keeping for next generations.

V. Siddhartha on Friday, July 24, 2009
You blessed my morning today, my friend. In my mind this beloved melody has
long been a synonym for Khurshid, but I am hearing it after more than five
decades. Came upon it by sheer happenstance as I was clicking around. The
joy is like that of suddenly meeting a long-lost friend again. Many
thanks,kpm5886.

Madhu Nair on Friday, July 24, 2009

RARE. i listened it, after 45 years. Thanks to kpm5886, who up loaded.
khalid Asghar.

Khalid Bhai, since you knew Nayyara Noor well as a fellow singer, I imagine
you have heard her rendition of this song too. It is also very sweet. It's
a relatively simple melody, not terribly difficult to sing. Yet it is
enormously melodious and is fondly remembered by millions. There's virtue
in simplicity as they say.

this song to make my father happy. i am happy that there are other people
in this world who like this song. thanks and regards madhu sudhan

KhalidAsgharRadioPak on Monday, July 27, 2009
Dear Madhu Sudhan, indeed it is a matter related to nostalgia and by good
music, we feel our lost very dear, like father, with us.Music is,
absolutely, a wonderful nexus and bridge to make people united and help in
sharing feelings and experiences. It is also a positive aspect of doing
catharsis, to live happily . Take care. My prayers will remain with you.
Thanks. Khalid Asghar.

Well I like Nayyara Noor a lot and she sang this song fairly well. But no one can ever replicate this song. This song belonged to Khursheed.

kbgrofaz on Sunday, August 02, 2009
Madhu Sudhan; Thanks a million for posting this one of rarest gems. My father loves Khursheed, K.L. Saigal Ji and others like Kanan Devi etc. Watching him listening to these great singers I became an avid fan of them too. What a treat to have this on YouTube.

this song is based on raag kedar and it is beautifuly rendered by singing
stars of yester years. even my father liked this song and used to hear it
many times and we also developed interest in this type of songs based on
classical raags. smt kursheed Bano has a soft voice which suits this type
of songs. I am a great fan and I have heard many songs rendered by this
great artist. It is good for youngsters to develop interest as it gives
good relaxation. Thanks for uploading.

i had the honour of interviewing her in her last days in Karachi for
Newsline magazine. what a great star she was.

More you listen to this song more you like it.This is GEM of a song and no
one can sing it the way Khurshid ji has sung . My late father was a fan of
Khurshid and with him we searched several music shops of Chandni Chowk
Delhi (around 1984-85)for Khurshid's gramophone records but couldn't find
any.On youtube only a few songs are available and a few more such uploads
will be very nice

orientlover1 on Thursday, August 19, 2010
looks very much like Meena Kumari (eyes, smile and hair style as well as her face )

Tonyroy00 on Wednesday, November 24, 2010
Untouchable legend.what more can I say.so lucky to have been born in this era to hear her voice... Chand sey preet lagaye...words cannot describe it..

Milahi1935 on Friday, June 03, 2011
Khursheed has sung a GREAT masterpiece. She has put in the moorkian and the
high notes perfectly. Only complaint is that the composer made the song too
short. Also, khursheed should have been asked to finish with higher notes
this song, somewhat like Rafi did years later. Khursheed had the capacity
to go to the fourth octave but was seldom given the music to do so.

drprabhakarawtade on Saturday, January 28, 2012
beutiful song... iske saath gungunaao aur masti me doob jaao.

Suresh Kumar on Tuesday, February 28, 2012
@orientlover1 The lady here is definitely Meena Kumari. I have Khursheed's
Tansen, in which she acts opposite K L Saigal. She looks very different.

orientlover1 on Tuesday, February 28, 2012
I was just comparing similarity of features of the two ladies. Lady appearing in this picture is in fact Khursheed Bano. She may look different in the movie Tansen due to time difference between two photos. A close look on the above photo will show a mole on the right side of face around upper lip. Meena Kumari did not have any such mole on her face which was perfectly smooth and clear. However, I have a feeling that Meena Kumari imitated Khursheed Bano's style in her early movies.

Suresh Kumar on Monday, March 12, 2012
@orientlover1 My father was in the RAF and stationed in Lahore from the
early 1940s till the partition. He was a fan of Saigal, Khursheed,
Noorjehan, Suraiya and Ashok kumar. He was an avid film-goer. When he died
in 2000 at the age of 86, his memory was still sharp. So I think we need to
dig up the past of Saraswati Devi and the film Achhut Kanya to find out who
the other Khursheed is. There are many such grey areas in our early films.

Suresh Kumar on Monday, March 12, 2012
@Suresh9714 We should have a forum where we can ask questions about these
grey areas and let our living legends Yusuf Khan, Shamshad Begum and Lata
Mangeshkar answer. Being veterans in the film industry, they may remember.

orientlover1 on Tuesday, March 13, 2012
RAF station was at Walton, a town then outside Lahore. It has a railway station with the same name. First? flying school in the subcontinent was established at Walton in 1929. Walton also has a railway training school with a Railway Colony. Railway network in this region was called N.W.R (North Western Railways) which was changed to P.W.R in 1960 and then to P.R in early 1970s. My father was an instructor at Railway Training School. I was born in Railway Colony at Walton.

orientlover1 on Tuesday, March 13, 2012
I remember my mother used to talk about an actress called Khursheed whom she had seen in movies in early 1930s. That was certainly not the Khursheed Bano of Tansen fame (seen in frames above). I believe there were two actresses under the name Khursheed. That was perhaps the reason that the she took Bano as her second name. It is also possible that the older Khursheed (Mishochar Home?) was perhaps Parsi as the name suggests.

orientlover1 on Tuesday, March 13, 2012
I would suggest you may read the following books by Saadat Hassan Manto, a famous Urdu short story writer who spent several years in Bombay during 1940s. They will give you an insight into the life of celebrities of Bombay film industry during those years:
1) Meena Bazar (Hindi) published by Rajkamal and Prakashan in 1962 from New Delhi and probably also from Jallundar.
2) Stars from Another Sky (English translation of Manto's articles). Year and name of publisher are not known.

Suresh Kumar on Saturday, March 17, 2012
@orientlover1 Thank you. I shall certainly look for these books.

Suresh Kumar on Saturday, March 17, 2012
@orientlover1 You are right. They are two different personalities. The
older one was certainly the contemperory of Devika Rani in the beginning of
the Bombay Talkies, as many of those early talkies had Saraswati Devi as
Music Director. I remember now that there was a talk of the Homji sisters.
Could the two Khursheeds have been sisters? The family of Khursheed Bano
can throw light on this.

Suresh Kumar on Saturday, March 17, 2012
@orientlover1 Thanks for this info on Walton. Glad to know that you were
born there. Dad never talked about Walton. He always talked about Lahore
and how he used to jump the walls and go to see films as they showed only
very old films in their tent.
