patbusy1 on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 Additionally, if you count Shahmir Khan and his fore-fathers who were all
great beenkars tracing back to the great Ustad Bande Ali Khan, then UAK and
his disciples do constitute a gharana. They were not a vocal gharana but a
beenkar gharana for sure tied closely to Indore. Therefore, to say there
was no Indore gharana is wrong. And as his music was principally merukhand
based, I could add him to the pantheon of Bhendibazar greats but not
Kirana. Inspite of the propaganda of the pro-Kirana crowd.
patbusy1 on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 Not true at all. Khansaab was never tutored formally by Ustad Abdul Waheed
Khan. His vilambit portion was taken from the Waheed Khan Saab but by
staking out at the Ustad's house. There are many stories and biographies
that point this out. Additionally, Khan saab's gayaki was not the taan
pradhan Kirana gayaki. The standout feature was merukhand. Which he learnt
from his father Shahmir Khan and other Bhendibazar doyens. His taans were
inspired by Rajab Ali Khan who was neither Kirana nor Jaipur.
Rohit Chandrachud on Friday, November 09, 2012 A small error in the description, Ustad Aamir Khan was not a Kirana Gharana
singer. He founded the Indore Gharana after closely observing three
different gharana styles: 1. Ustad Abdul Wahid Khan and Ustad Abdul Karim
Khan: Kirana Gharana. 2. Ustad Aman Ali Khan: Bhendibazaar Gharana, which
his own father Shahmir Khan (sarangi) and his grandfather, Change Khan
(vocals) belonged to. 3. Ustad Rajab Ali Khan: musician in Dewas and
Kolhapur who sang a mixture of Jaipur and Kirana Gharana.
Shreya Choudhury on Wednesday, May 06, 2015 clmusic888 - Ustad Amir Khan is from the Indore Gharana, not from the
Kirana Gharana.
