Comments for song "Saba Se Yeh Kah Do"
jasiddiqi on Thursday, February 12, 2009 Excellent! Well done, I really appreciate it, it's very hard work doing this sort of thing. Only a truly dedicated fan could do it. Audio much improved and even the picture looks better now. Apart from the excellent Urdu poetry, what I really liked about this song is Asha Bhonsle's very special expression. True, Madan Mohan always preferred Lata over Asha, but whenever Asha sang for Mohan, it became something very special, don't you agree?
srazdan on Friday, February 13, 2009 Great job! Thanks for sharing.
bemused321 on Friday, February 13, 2009 It is my pleasure to share it especially with you because I found out about this song from your posting it on YouTube. So Thank you!
chamogaa on Saturday, February 21, 2009 You said it all. There is no need for me to add any words except to say I fully agree with you.
vivedsen on Sunday, February 22, 2009 hi, many thanks for this song, this is indeed a real treasure of Indian music.
sonalib1 on Sunday, February 22, 2009 this is one of my all time favourites! thanks for this one!
bemused321 on Sunday, February 22, 2009 To sonalib1 and vivedsen: You're welcome!
I somehow believed that Lata sang all of the great female sentimental solos for Madan Mohan. So, I wasn't even looking for any such Asha/MM songs. Also, I had not heard of the film Bank Manager. I happened to uncover Saba Se through serendipity.
Just as a trivia, Madan Mohan has given music to Bank Manager, Chowkidar, Inspector Eagle, Jailor, Khazanchi, Minister, Pocketmaar, and Sultana Daku... is there a pattern here??
bemused321 on Saturday, March 07, 2009 additional comments received from jasiddiqi:
"Saba" is Persian for "fragrant breeze" -- in other words, literally,
"Tell the fragrant breeze to spread a carpet of buds, the one who is the life and soul of Spring is about to arrive."
That's a bit clumsy -- translations usually are -- but this idea of expectation is very important in Urdu/Persian poetry and is celebrated more than the actual arrival. The imminent arrival is where the real joy lies.
bemused321 on Saturday, March 07, 2009 Addional comments from jasiddiqi:
"You will also find this kind of tradition in mediaeval Hindi poetry, especially certain kinds of thumris, where the preparations for the beloved's arrival are more important than the arrival itself: the getting the house ready, "sringar", getting dressed up, etc. There's that famous old thumri: "chundri main dhari aaoon, gagri main bhari laaoon, main to kar aaoon sola singaar re, thaare rahiyo." A famous thumri from the Lucknow gharana of kathak."
saudaee on Sunday, June 21, 2009 Yes, how some of the older songs are erotic without showing any flesh and not even touching.just lovely

Rmehtacpa on Saturday, November 28, 2009 What a GAZAL. ".Ye rangeen fasana koi mujshe puchhe ke tu kitna pyara tu kitna hasin hai, suna tha hasin dil pe karte hain jadoo, tujhe dekhkar etbar aa raha hai...

MrAtulshah on Wednesday, March 03, 2010 after going through the movie names u have mentioned i can say with confidence that this great music director never got his due recognition for his invaluable contribution to the music industry this reminds me of gurudutt and his kaagaz ke phool movie incredible similarites.
durlabhpkolhe on Thursday, April 15, 2010 best song by asha and madan mohan for film bank manager.
010904050 on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 What I learned is "son't even try to translate an Indian poetry (Hindi, Urdu, Gujarati or any other) to English". Once my son asked me why was I so much excited about the Ghazal "Zindagi mein to sabhi pyar kiya karte hein, main to mar kar bhi meri jaan tujhe chahunga". I told him what each stanza meant, he was not impressed, in fact, he almost ridiculed me.

tdch88 on Sunday, August 15, 2010 May be the majority of the folks may not agree. But somehow I find Asha and Geeta Dutt to be more sensual and expressive than Lata. They ought to have reached higher places.

ramils on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 @010904050 : Ha Ha Ha.. I can imagine that. Sometimes I sing to myself in my office in USA and people ask me to translate it... I just dont it because it doesnt come out the way it was writen.. No fun at all. English is a very limited language compared to Hidi/Urdu/Persian and other old languages and their vocab.
010904050 on Thursday, September 16, 2010 @ramils Glad, I'm not alone, others have similar experiences.

dunnowhat20 on Saturday, February 26, 2011 @bemused321 I love ash's style of rendition & her voice. In my opinion this is not only one of the best hindi song fro the movie or otherwise, but this is the BEST song Asha Ji has EVER sung, & I don't think she can out do herself when compared with this one...this is what I consider the audio bliss...the perfect blend of poetry, melody, rhythm, composition, rendition, voice, feeling.cannot get any better.
