"You will also find this kind of tradition in mediaeval Hindi poetry, especially certain kinds of thumris, where the preparations for the beloved's arrival are more important than the arrival itself: the getting the house ready, "sringar", getting dressed up, etc. There's that famous old thumri: "chundri main dhari aaoon, gagri main bhari laaoon, main to kar aaoon sola singaar re, thaare rahiyo." I somehow believed that Lata sang all of the great female sentimental solos for Madan Mohan. So, I wasn't even looking for any such Asha/MM songs. Also, I had not heard of the film Bank Manager. I happened to uncover Saba Se through serendipity.
Just as a trivia, Madan Mohan has given music to Bank Manager, Chowkidar, Inspector Eagle, Jailor, Khazanchi, Minister, Pocketmaar, and Sultana Daku... is there a pattern here??
