Shortly after her passing, the public took a renewed interest in 'Pakeezah' and the film subsequently went on to become a hit.

In fact in some of the long shots a body double was used for the dance moves.Initially the film did badly, but after her death gained immense popularity and attained a cult status. Interestingly, it took 14 years to complete the film.
