Comments for song "Ave Maria Gracia Plena"
Fersomling on Saturday, December 15, 2012 I sure am glad that I'm Catholic! I got Jesus, the Father, and the Holy Ghost, plus all the angels and saints, and the brethren here below praying for me. I get to receive Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, His Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity! I am so thankful that the Holy Ghost penetrated my invincible ignorance about the Church!
All praise, thanks, adoration, and glory to Him Who is!
May all God's children open their hearts to Him! Infinite Love! Endless Goodness! Unending Joy! Giver of Life!

Cosmic Contrarian on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 God bless them... I am sure god blessed them as they were gunned down.
What a wonderful morally upstanding god he is, I hope he blesses me if something like that happens to me, then I'll not feel as bad knowing god blessed me, AS HE ALLOWED ME TO BE SHOT IN THE FACE.

infernalirk on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 Most of the people who died, statistically speaking, were probably Christian. As are their families, who mourn them. Why do you think letting everyone know you're an atheist or non-Christian and elaborating upon the perceived flaws of their faith is important at this juncture? let them have their comforts, douche.
Alexander Whedon on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 Matthew 10:28: And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
It's not about what happened to them temporally, it's about them being blessed in the eternal life for being innocent when they died.
Richard Ward on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 RIP The 26 Angels from Newtown Ct...especially, Ms. Vicki Soto from Stratford, Ct. where I grew up...& went to: David Wooster Jr. High (1953) My sister Doris went to Stratford High.
AndyJackson1776 on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 people make the event political on both sides which is regretable. Those children are in heaven, among the angels. God take care of their families here on earth. May His Kingdom come swift.
Cosmic Contrarian on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 Don't know what eternal life is, do you mean heaven?
Of course it matters, you can experience pain and suffering right now, not to mention the suffering the parents must have went through and are still going through.
Your god allowed that to happen, I don't know how you can live with yourself thinking and knowing that.
Cosmic Contrarian on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 because people should not believe in things that are not true.

tony06727 on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 Have you forgotten? We kicked God out of our schools and so much of our world. What can we expect?

pritzi101 on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 I wonder, do you get comfort from what you're doing? Are you then the same type that will wax lyrical about how religious people try to shove their beliefs down your throat? Or is it different for you, because you are of course right?
Cosmic Contrarian on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 No, I hate having to do any of this, in a way it cannot be helped, because when someone says "god bless" after children have been killed, it strikes me as immoral and offensive, because it implies that god allowed the children to be murdered and then blessed them, which is obviously disgusting to any sane person.
jewelmarkess on Thursday, December 20, 2012 Let's not blame religion or lack of it for this tragedy. I grew up in the Soviet Union and guess what - we had no religion and there was not a single incident of anybody shooting kids on the street. I respect other people's beliefs, but religion has nothing to do with morality. There are good and bad people among both religious and non-religious people. Oh, and if you don't believe you value life even more because then there is no "after", one life is all you have.
jewelmarkess on Thursday, December 20, 2012 It's not up to you to decide what people should or shouldn't believe in. Otherwise, it'd sound like you'd be right at home in the Soviet Union. I am not religious either, but I respect other people's rights. Also, how about some sensitivity. This is a tragedy. For many people whose kids died religion may be the only comfort they have. Who are you to take it away from them and add to their pain?
jewelmarkess on Thursday, December 20, 2012 Hello? This is Barbara Bonney.
jewelmarkess on Thursday, December 20, 2012 Without Walter Scott's "Lady of the Lake" this song wouldn't exist either. Also, Schubert wrote 700 songs and many of them are just as beautiful. Great artists find a way to express themselves.
jewelmarkess on Thursday, December 20, 2012 I don't think anybody should push one's beliefs or lack of them on anybody. But unless you are a descendent of Schubert, you have no more cultural claim on this song than anybody else here. FYI: this song is part of a cycle of songs to poem Lady of the Lake by Walter Scott (translated to German). It's called Ellens dritter Gesang (Ellen's third song) and in it a young Scottish lady prays for her and her father's safety while hiding in a cave from his enemies.
jewelmarkess on Thursday, December 20, 2012 So am I and I agree with you 100%. The funny thing is that this song is as religious as a prayer of any character of a play or a poem. It is Ellens dritter Gesang (Ellen's third song) - a prayer of a character in Lady of the Lake by Walter Scott for her an her father's safety yet it seems to create more arguments than purely religious music like say Bach-Gounod Ave Maria. But regardless, this is a beautiful song and the words of Walter Scott are beautiful too regardless of one's beliefs.
whatsgoingon26 on Thursday, December 20, 2012 Brings tears to my eyes. Just beautiful.
patrick Richard on Thursday, December 20, 2012 hey cosmic,, quit being a douche
nukecell on Thursday, December 20, 2012 Translation
Ave Maria Hail Mary
Full of grace
Mary, full of grace
Mary, full of grace
Hail, hail the Lord
The lord is with thee
Blessed art thou among women
And blessed
And blessed is the fruit
, Jesus.
Fruit of thy womb, Jesus
Hail Mary
Hail Mary
Mother of God
Pray for us sinners
Pray for us
Pray, pray for us sinners
Now in the hour of our death
And in the hour of our death
And in the hour of our death
And in the hour of our death
Hail Mary
jewelmarkess on Thursday, December 20, 2012 You attacked the person who really meant well. No believing that the child is in heaven doesn't change the fact, but it's obviously provides some small consolation to a parent. I seriously doubt parents who are believers pretend their children are still alive, and they are still grieving. But they need strength to go on and if religion provides them with strength, who are you to tell them they are wrong, it's simply not your choice to make. It's not up to you do say what is worse.
Jacqueline Stevens on Thursday, December 20, 2012 Please be kind everyone. This is not the time to argue or be arrogant and mean. Show respect.
jewelmarkess on Friday, December 21, 2012 You jumped on someone for really innocuous comment. I know the words the poster choose bothered you, but the poster meant well. If by "red herring" you mean the Soviet Union, I don't see it as such: the Soviet Union was strongly atheistic to the point of virtually forbidding people to practice it at least young people, old women could do what they wanted. So telling people they shouldn't believe is a similar mentality. Not to mention that you aren't exactly convincing anybody.
sarcas bass on Friday, December 21, 2012 Yeah moral values are just sociological and evolutionary methods of survival. Children dieing doesn't really matter anyway.
jewelmarkess on Friday, December 21, 2012 Hm no... The actual translation is "Ave Maria! maiden mild!
Listen to a maiden's prayer!
Thou canst hear though from the wild;
Thou canst save amid despair.
Safe may we sleep beneath thy care,
Though banish'd, outcast and reviled --
Maiden! hear a maiden's prayer;
Mother, hear a suppliant child!
Ave Maria .. "
From "Lady of the Lake" by Sir Walter Scott. Schubert wrote a cycle of songs to words of this poem. One of the songs is Ellens dritter Gesang (Ellen's third song) - this song.
jewelmarkess on Friday, December 21, 2012 Please check your years. This is Barbara Bonney who is/was (she is teaching now) one of the leading lyric sopranos, an opera singer and also the foremost performer of Lieder (like this). Tarja is nowhere near this level.
